TORN AMERICA

Everything I ever read about America while growing up was optimistic. We were the best. The strongest, richest country on earth. We crossed the ocean to get here and "tamed a wild continent." We built cities where nothing had existed. Laid the rails and paved the roads. We saved Europe twice in one century. We mass produced cars, TVs, refrigerators. We invented air conditioning, the telephone, the iPhone and the modern electric car. We went to the moon. We could do it all and did.

Now I keep hearing we need to expect less. The defeatist, weak kneed ideas of the surrender monkeys has gone mainstream. Growing up we called them "cowards" or communist. My Dad was a First Sargent, so he was plain spoken. Today, they are everywhere in government. On Facebook. At school board meetings. Their basic message is the future is doomed. They say we are running out of water, electricity, money and opportunity. The End is near.

It is all baloney. We have faced bigger challenges and gone on to exceed expectations. I'm asking you to change the way you think and speak. EXPECT MORE. Ask for MORE. Demand MORE from government and each other. End the narrative of less. We can desalinate the Ocean if we need more water. Other countries do. We can install SMR nuclear to generate clean limitless electricity. We can work harder and do better. The first step is to change the way we think and speak. EXPECT MORE not less.
